Review the following terms for the quiz next class.

A mountain is a natural elevation of the land. A mountain is larger than a hill.

A river is a large, natural stream of water that usually flows into a larger body of water.

A basin is a round, low area of land surrounded by a higher area of land. It is shaped like a shallow bowl. A basin can be on land or on the ocean floor.

A lake is a body of inland water completely surrounded by land on all sides.

An island is an area of land completely surrounded by water on all sides.

A valley is an area of low land between mountains or large hills.

A plain is a large area of flat land free from forests and mountains.

A canyon is a narrow valley or chasm with steep cliff walls.

A desert is a barren land area containing little or no vegetation.

A peak is the highest part of a mountain.

Grassland is an ecosystem whose dominant species are various types of grass.
