Songhai Essay Questions

Block B: Explain how the following two rulers impacted Shonhai:

  • Askiya Muhammad The Great
  • Sunni Ali The Greats

Block C: Write a brief summary of the history of the Songhai Empire, or write a time line. Start at the birth of the empire at 750 CE and end around 1600 CE with the downfall of the empire. Be sure to include important dates like being conquered by Mali, breaking away form Mali, the rise of Sonni Ali and then Muhammed Ture, the recapture of Gao and capture of Timbuktu and Jenne.

Block D: How did trade affect the religion, culture, and art of the Swahili Coastal Trading States?

Block C: Write a Paragraph explaining why the Swahili were a important to the history of Africa. Include trade, history, culture, and religion. Include an introduction, 4-8 sentences explaining why they were important and what their life was like, and a conclusion.

Block H: How did location affect trade, people, language, and daily life?

Ancient African Project Reminder

Next week we will begin our Ancient African Project presentations. If you want me to make copies of anything for your presentation you must get it to me this week so it is ready on the day of your presentation. I should have a one page 10-question quiz form every group so I can make copies for you to use during your presentation. Check the calendar to see which day your tribe group presents!
